WHY WE SHOULD STAND WITH JOEFEL, MY EXPERIENCE.
CONVERSATIONS WITH HON. (DR) FELIX GODSENT EHIGUESE AKHABUE, JP AKA JOEFEL….
——— Kingsley Ohens
One day while on the phone with (Hon. Dr.) Felix Godsent Akhabue, JP aka JOEFEL, I asked him a question, I wanted to know how he was able to remember the names of remote villages and communities right down to landmarks like ancient trees…”
His answer (Paraphrased)
“For some years now, I have made Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency, and indeed, the entire Esanland my research topic. She’s all I read and she’s all I know. When you see me studying and travelling around and out of the country to attend conferences and training workshops, it’s all about the old Okpebholo Federal Constituency, and Esan land in general. I want to learn and borrow from the best minds around the world. Every information I receive, I reference such information with my knowledge of Esan Central, Esan West and Igueben Federal Constituency cum Esanland and by extension Edo State.
People don’t know this, but I have a little diary and it’s been my constant companion. When I travel around the State for weddings, marriage anniversaries, special visits and funerals my diary is always by my side. As I go through our villages and communities, I ask questions. I see a little stream and I want to know the name. I go through a bad dirt road, I stop the car, I get down and I want to know the cause of the erosion and the source. Is it rain water or the texture of the soil?
I don’t take photographs, the image and the location is immediately imprinted in my mind. If I see some old hut nearby I knock on the door and ask the inhabitants how long the road has been in such poor condition. Obviously these people are always shocked when they realise who I am because it’s always the first time persons outside the domain or environment is stopping to ask, and show concerns.
My passion for my Federal Constituency, and Esan land goes beyond politics, it is personal. It is that intimate to me. I still have my diary and I am still jotting down all the information I need. When I become member of House of Representatives, I wouldn’t depend entirely on people to give me the facts I need because I will have my own facts. I will know these forgotten villages, communities, clans and hamlets. This idea was also one of my Success story secret when I was the Council Chairman of my Esan west Local Government Area within 2-years, and 10-months. Then I didn’t wasted any time studying the area before going into action.
This is why I need our delegates to believe in me, they should listen to my heart. I am the best foot forward for House of Representatives. When a man comes to your house, shows you the architectural plan and advices you on how he can improve it – wouldn’t you believe that fellow, than a workman who’s been hired to do the job? When I become member of House Representative, I will get my team to adopt the wisdom of the dairy.
That little diary has been my biggest secret. If you are passionate about something it is Wisdom I advice everybody to adopt.
If you read my manifesto, you have seen my diary!
