The Member Representing Esan South East Constituency in the Edo state House of Assembly, Hon. Ojiezele Osezua Sunday (a.k.a Ikpenomhen), has on Sunday commended the joint security network of Ubiaja, the administrative headquarters of Esan South East LGA, over the recovery of the money and cars stolen by the armed robbers that attacked four banks last Thursday in Uromi, Esan North East LGA of Edo state.

The gang of armed robbers had on Thursday stormed four banks in Uromi, carting away over N34m but they were allegedly intercepted by some members of the local vigilante in Ubiaja who kept watch in the bush around the boundary between Uromi and Ubiaja, which the armed robbers used as escape route.

Eye witness account told reporters that the armed robbers were forced to flee in motorcycles, abandoning the vehicles and cash loot stocked in the boots of the vehicles.

The affected banks include Unity, Union, UBA and Zenith Banks, all located at Market Road in Uromi.

Hon. Ojiezele who spoke to our correspondent in Benin city, commended the security team and described their prompt action as an act of bravery.

The lawmaker appreciated God for making sure no Ubiaja member of the local vigilante was killed in the bush, even as he commiserated with families who lost loved ones and those who sustained injuries in the Uromi bank incident which he described as unfortunate.

He called on government at all tiers to contribute in strengthening the security network and surveillance system in the area and further expressed readiness to contribute his quota in the collaborative effort with other individuals and corporate entities.

In his words, “Despite much responsibilities placed on both security agencies, tremendous successes are achieved when there is collaboration. There should be deliberate and sustained efforts to keep these agencies encouraged.”

Stressing the importance of security and law enforcement synergy, the lawmaker said the police, military, vigilante, the EFCC and the National drug law enforcement agency, NDLEA, needed constant synergy to address acts of criminality in the area.

“Count on me to always assist you in your operations here in Esan South East, even as I encourage you to continuously liaise with other law enforcement agencies for better results. We are working for the same Edo people and we need inter-agency co-operation to achieve a better local government area and fight the menace of internal insecurity.” Ojiezele said.
