THE MIGHTY AND THE POWERFUL A LESSON FROM AWOLOWO AND MKO

AWOLOWO AND MKO

By Comrade Henshaw O.

The Awo of Blessed memory did great things during his days as Action Group and UPN leader. He built so many infrastructures in the Western region, built the first television station in Africa now NTA, brought pipe bone water to every town and villages in the region. He was one of the nationalist that fought for Nigeria independence, he built the cocoa house, Odua group of companies, revolutionized Education, brought civilization to Nigeria, he helped the North as Minister of finance and Economy during the civil war to prosecute the war between 1967 to 1970 against Biafra, he was celebrated by the Hausas and Fulanis as their Messiah during the war.

Mind you in 1979 when the military was ready to hand over power, the Northerners didn’t allow him, they saw him as being too educated, too popular, too civilized and too progressive minded and not good to be President of the country. Same game that played out in 1963 when NCNC formed alliance with NPC against AG.

Again MKO Abiola was a household name in the north, he had so many business interest across the country, he has helped NPN and Shehu Shagari to defeat Awolowo in 1979 presidential election, alleged to have assisted IBB to power and was dinning with him, he was very powerful and influential, in 1993 he wanted to be President, he contested and won the election cleanly and freely, but the North again saw him as being too powerful, too influential and too rich to be given the Presidency of this country.

My brother just think of these two scinerios that has happened it this country in the past.

It is my considered opinion that Osinbajo should be allowed to fly the ticket so that the country will be United and for Southerners to have the power shifted to the south, but if you guys says no, me I will support who ever wins the ticket from my party provided he is from the south.
