In the name of Almighty God, I welcome you all to today’s maiden Ewu International Day, tagged: Eilu Cultural Festival.

I will firstly pay tribute to the late Prof. Ben Aigbokhan of blessed memory, former chairman of Ewu Development Association, who initiated and worked tirelessly towards the actualization of this day, but sadly died last year. May the Almighty have mercy on his soul and grant him eternal rest.

In the same-vein, I, wish to pay tribute to late High Chief Saliu Okonofua, who started ‘Ewu Day’ in the sixties with a football tournament tagged: Okonofua Gold Cup.

Also, I, deeply appreciate DIG Fedelis Oyakhilome and Admiral Peter Ebhaleme for their invaluable support and commitment toward the ‘Ewu Greatness Project’.

Ewu International Day, is an event we envisaged to be an annual ceremony intended to showcase our rich cultural heritage, values, dance, music, unity talks and all the good things that concerns us, as a people with a common history, emphasizing on unity, cohesion, building bridges of trust amongst all the various communities in Ewu, while also facilitating development projects in Ewu and laying a solid foundation for the building or development of human resources, both in politics, military, entrepreneurship e.t.c.

Like every other community, we have had our period of great challenges. But I believe that such challenges can be overcome when we honestly and genuinely approach such issues in unison. We cannot underestimate the power of a united people who are determined to achieve a goal or purpose. Our forefathers were united, that is the reason they could influenced the establishment of Ewu Grammar School, the Nigeria Postal Service, Ewu Bendel Feeds and Flour Mill, Ewu.

Also recently, we were able to approached the Edo State Government and World Bank who came to our aid by linking the terrible gully erosion problem in Ewu. So the issue of unity is fundamental. I express our gratitude to the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for the great work done so far and also asked that, the second phase of the project should commence.

I want to use this medium to appeal to our illustrious sons and daughters to come home and invest. This is the only way we can address the issue of joblessness in Ewu and also reduce the issue of rural–urban migration.

The issue of insecurity has been a major concern, we have been doing our best to address it. I say a big thank you to Ewu Progressive Foundation (EPF), for the provision of a vehicle, motor bikes and other security gadgets to members of Ewu vigilantes. This will go a long way solving or reducing this insecurity in Ewu.

Finally I want to thank Eliukhide for their contributions towards Ewu Kingdom, Ewu Progressive Union, Warri, Oneghesele Foundation, Ewu Youths Coalition, Ewu Renaissance Initiative, and all other Social Cultural Groups in Ewu, for your support towards the realization of today.

I, also appreciate Chief Eric Ebozele and Pastor Henry for your belief in the ‘Ewu Greatness Project’. I thank Ewu Development Association (National), for supporting the palace to put up this huge event.

I, specially thank every Ewu Sons and Daughters, our wives and In-laws, for your prayers, support and encouragement.

The chairman of this occasion Engr Adams Okoene, has been wonderful, I say thank you, and to our esteemed special guests of honour, thanks for honouring our invitation, we won’t take your coming for granted and may God bless you kindly.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

God bless Edo State!!

God bless Ewu Kingdom!!!
