‘Nobody Was Abducted In Ubiaja’ – Edo Police Say

Edo state police command says no kidnapping took in Ubiaja, Esan South East local government area of Edo state on 20 October 2021 as widely reported in the social media.


A statement by the Edo state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs, said, “The true representation of what happened was not properly reported on social media.”

The true position is that on 20 October 2021 at about 03:20hrs, one Mr Azeze Ibrahim of Kabba main town, a driver of Toyota Bus with Registration No. LG 10 KAB and one Mr John Ugboma of upper Iweka road Onitsha, a luxurious bus driver with Registration number AWK 597 WZ, both reported at the Ubiaja police Division Edo state that they were travelling from Onitsha to Kogi state.

On getting to Ewohimi-Ubiaja road near Illah River, seven armed men emerged from a nearby bush and robbed all the passengers of their money, mobile phones and other personal valuables. Nobody was hurt or taken to the bush. The two vehicles have continued their journey since 04:00hrs”.

The Edo state police PRO appealed to Journalists to always verify their information before publication.

He called on all Esan people home and abroad to remain calm as the area was safe and calm.

He stated that strong efforts had been put in place to secure Esan land.
