Lack of Values, Respect for human Lives, Others, Enemies of Peace – Obaseki.

The Edo state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has blamed the loss of moral values and influx of persons of questionable character who do not respect the human lives, decency and the culture of hand work, on the current trend of worrisome security incidences in the state.

He stated this as part of his Keynote address at the Year 2022 Investiture Ceremony of International Peace Advocates organized by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) which took place on the 9th of April 2022 in Benin City, the Edo State capital, with the theme; “Peace Back Nigeria”, – International Peace Advocates; Think Globally, Act Locally.

He further described peace as not necessarily the absence of war but “a state of tranquility and orderliness free from any oppressive activities, toxic emotions and apprehension.”

The governor added; “I like to recall that until recently, Edo State enjoyed relative peace with our people in their respective communities and Local Government areas going about their businesses and other engagements without any fear or harassment from any person or quarter. It is pertinent to observe that as a result of the peace that prevailed, the people had freedom to build enterprises, inter-married and conducted all religious, socio-economic and even political affairs without any threat to public peace and safety.

“However, current trend of events is not only worrisome but very challenging when viewed against the backdrop of the distortions to the hitherto atmosphere of friendship, decency and order that existed. This is evidenced by some of the recent security incidence in our state which could be attributed to loss of moral values and influx of persons of questionable character who do not share our cherished respect for the human lives, decency and the culture of hand work.

“On our part as a government a lot has been done and plans to reverse this now ugly trend are being implemented. I like to mention at this juncture that Edo State Government has been very supportive of security institutions in the state to ensure that Edo Citizens sleep with their eyes closed.

“This proactive steps informed by the fact that Government knows that no meaningful economic prosperity can be attained without security and public order or safety. The present administration in the state has also reaffirmed its commitment to service delivery to Edo people.

“The MEGA agenda of the Government is designed to ensure the full participation of Edo people both at home and in the diaspora in the rebuilding the Edo state of our dream. Can Government do it alone? Certainly not. Security and Safety matters must be the concern of all, and it is in this respect that I wish to sincerely appreciate the organization of the Year 2022 Investiture ceremony by the international Peace Advocates.
Let me use this opportunity to call on all Edo people and all development-oriented organizations within and outside Edo State to please join hands with the State Government in addressing the myriads of emerging security issues in our state. He said.
