EWU PROGRESS FOUNDATION CONGRATULATES DR ENABULELE, PRESIDENT-ELECT WORLD MEDICAL ASSOCIATION
On behalf of Ewu Progress Foundation and the Ewu people, acting for the people of Esanland in Edo State, I am mandated to write to congratulate Dr Osahon Enabulele and our brothers, the Benin People, over the election of an Edo man as President-Elect of the World Medical Association (WMA) for the 2022-2023 Executive year.
Our Foundation, being the foremost sociocultural organization in Ewu, and a significant force in Esanland, recognises acutely that at a perilous time like this when Nigeria doctors are relocating overseas in droves, many working below or outside their professional capabilities due to discriminatory policies in some western countries, a Nigerian, an Edo man, was able to hold his own on the world stage and demonstrate the well-documented fact that Nigeria doctors are among the best in the world.
We are delighted that a Nigerian, an Edo man, our own brother, has been elected to lead a very important world body at a time like this.
We hope, and pray, that he uses his office when sworn in to, among other things, remove every vestige of discrimination against Nigeria doctors in many western countries like United States, Canada, and Europe where our doctors are still subjected to series of pointless examinations that are akin to unnecessary ‘retraining’ and apparent waste of time for many who, after all said and done turn out to be better at work there even as doctors.
The well documented fact that our doctors outstandingly excel in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere where they experience less discrimination should be a point of reference for any advocacy in those western countries.
We also hope, and pray, that Dr Enabulele helps to work with the Nigerian government to urgently review and resolve the current Healthcare crisis in Nigeria, and the unfortunate factors that force many Nigeria doctors to abandon their country to work overseas, so that future Nigeria doctors would not only stay back in Nigeria happily, with their economy and dignity intact, to help grow our health sector but foreign doctors would begin to find Nigeria a destination to emigrate to.
The Ewu Progress Foundation, and our President, Engr Fidelis Edokpa, wish Dr Enabulele, a Chief Consultant Family Physician, every success in the new assignment, assuring him of the Ewu People’s unflinching support and continual prayers.
Amonghon, Dr Enabulele. Congratulations.
