EdoJobs Has Taken The Youth Training Orientation To Edo North.
As part of efforts to deepen skills development and create sustainable means of livelihood for people in rural communities across Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s job creation and skills development initiative, Edojobs, has taken the Youth training Orientation to Edo North Senatorial District of Edo State. The district comprises of Akoko-Edo, Etsako Central, Etsako East, Etsako West, Owan East and Owan West.
The Managing Director for EdoJobs, Mrs Ukinebo Dare, who briefed the delegates from each local government area on the purpose and function of EdoJobs. “EdoJobs which is a Government Employment Agency assists both private companies/Organizations, the civil service and government to advertise job openings for which individuals who qualify and are interested may apply.” However, the final selections are done by those organizations after all applications are submitted to them.
She further explained that even though EdoJobs heavily advertises job opening and skills training Edo North had the least participants. She expressed her understanding of trust issues and her awareness of the agency being politicized. EdoJobs is here for everyone who needs a job, learn a skill, start their own business, etc.
In their reactions, delegates from the local government complained that the information did not get to them. Contact persons for each LGA was introduced to the delegates.
Other speakers present at the event were Mr. Asemota Izoduwa who spoke on the importance of Technology in today’s world & leaders role in bridging this gap. Mr. Joseph Ojoboh spoke on how to access the EDSG 2BN MSME Funds and Edo Online Market Place. The representative of GIZ also spoke about their Collaboration with EdoJobs in providing skilled training to individuals in Edo State.
Omololu Ojehomon was called upon to give her input on some of the challenges experienced thus far in getting youth participation in the various programs. The major reason she gave was lack of information and assistance in processing. She stated that there is gradual progress in the Owan West LGA. The youth are constantly being engaged, provided with Information and encouraged to participate.
The Edo State Deputy Governor, RT. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu in his keynote address, encouraged the people to take advantage of EdoJobs and the benefits it offers. He advised the contact persons to always pass on information and communicate as at when due.
The highlight of the event was the donation of a Computer Centre in Jattu by the Edo State Deputy Governor where individuals can get assistance in going through various processes and for information.
