Edo NUJ Condemns NGMC/EDC Action Against Ossiomo Power Plant.
…Calls on stakeholders’ intervention
The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) has condemned statement credited to the Nigeria Gas Marketing Company, a subsidiary of NNPC which supplies gas to the Ossiomo Power Company with the collaboration of some official of Electricity Distribution Company (EDC) to frustrate Edo State Government effort to make life more meaningful to its citizens.
Ossiomo Power Company has earlier reported a forceful shut down of its gas facility by the Nigeria Gas Marketing Company (NGMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
In the press statement jointly signed by Chairman of Edo State Council of NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe and the Council Secretary, Comrade Andy Egbon described the action as wickedness, anti-progressive, anti-development and anti-people.
The added that the union have it in authority that there are clandestine moves by some interest groups to frustrate Edo State Government efforts to boost socio-economic activities in the state through Ossiomo Power Plant.
You will recalled that through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, Edo State Government secured approval for power supply through Ossiomo Power Plant to provide electricity to government offices, Ministries Departments, Agencies and other public establishments.
Edo NUJ therefore calls on all relevant stakeholders and all lovers of good things to intervene and call those responsible for the ungodly act to order in the interest of the people of Edo State, the statement advised.
It would be recall that, Ossiomo Power Company, a private power company in collaboration with Edo State government, supply electricity to government offices and Parastatals in the state including Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Edo State Council.
