Comrade Bevy Efe Tells Edo Governor to appoint a competent, capable hand as Commissioner of Environment!

….and declare state of emergency on environmental sanitation to rid Edo Cities off trash!

Benin City 22nd September 2021.

A concerned environmental and human rights activist, Comrade Bevy Efe has called on Edo State Government led by Gov. Godwin Obaseki to as a matter of necessity appoint a competent and capable hand to man the Ministry of Environment in this dispensation.

Efe made this call today as a follow up to his one man public enlightenment campaign on environmental sanitation in commemoration of the World Clean-up Day in Benin City.

According to the rights activist, “it is worrisome seeing how dirty our public centers have become in recent times owing to lapses on the part of the government who refused to take the issue of tidiness and indiscrminate disposal of waste, with the seriousness it deserves.

It’s high time, the governor declare a state of emergency on the environment before it gets out of hands. Cleanliness is next to godliness. A cleaned city will be healthy and attractive to investors and tourist, Efe told Radio Esan in Benin City while embarking on one man enlightenment of residence in the ancient city.

Comrade Bevy Efe is the Chief Logistics Officer of Edo Dynasty United Organization Worldwide, an organization that recently observed World Earth Day in the state via tree planting and sanitation of major urban centers.

Efe said though the few NGOs are showing concern, it’s not enough to attain a cleaner Edo State. The government ought to take a decisive stand on the issues of environment by appointing an able commissioner and if possible revive the monthly environmental sanitation programme.

Efe specifically called on Edo people and Nigerians to promote a healthy and cleaner Edo State by desisting from indiscrminate disposal of waste.

Comrade Efe addressed journalists in Benin City the Edo State capital on the occasion of World Clean-up Day 2021 – a global event spearheaded by the United Nation to mobilize millions of people across the world for cleaner community.

According to Comrade Efe, “18th September every year is World Clean-up Day, a day set aside by United Nations ┬áto unite more than 20 million people in 180 countries to engage government, volunteers, partners worldwide to come together again to rid our planet of trash.

In my observation Edo state was left behind in the world largest civil event and this is not encouraging considering the importance of cleanliness in pursuit of healthy living.

As I speak to you now, all roads, market, government institutions are very dirty in Benin city and across major Edo Cities, and this is not a good development for us as a people. Taking care of our environment is a responsibility of government and residence alike.

Edo residence must be conscious, proactive about the cleaniness of our environment. I therefore courage them to always dispose waste properly and desist from indiscrminate disposal of waste.

Edo government for over 5years now has not taken environmental sanitation, proper waste disposal by waste management agents enforcement of environmental laws, beautification of our environment and planting of trees to help stabilize the ecosystem seriously, I call on the governor of Edo state Gov. Godwin Obaseki to declare state of emergency on the evironment and appoint someone that has the capacity and experience as commissioner for evironment to help restore and avoid environmental degradetion as his government has not taken it as a priority.
