A 47 Years-old Road Still Lead From the Oil Rich Niger Delta to the Federal Capital Territory!
As Esan Youths protest the sorry state of Benin Auchi Road.
Comrade Ohens, EYO President call on government authority to fix Ekpoma, Ewu, Auchi Road without delay.
…as he joins Esan Liberation Movement, CEESF, and other Esan Organization to protest against the sorry state of Benin Auchi Expressway.
Ekpoma 26th August 2022.
Comrade Kingsley Ohens, the national president of Esan Youths Organization and the media director of Urban Scoop Media, has called on the federal government of Nigeria, the Edo State government and all appropriate government agencies to as a matter of urgency commence the fixing of the Esan axis of the Benin/Auchi Expressway to alleviate the suffering of road users and the Esan masses.
Comrade Ohens made this call in Ujoelen Ekpoma when he joined the ongoing protest against government abandonment of the road for over 47 years.
According to the Esan media personality, “The protest being convened by the Esan Liberation Movement (ELM) is long overdue. We have suffered too much on this federal road and the government at all level seems not to show concern despite the great importance of this highway to mobility of people and goods and its economic importance to Nigerians. This is the road going from the oil rich Niger Delta region and the Eastern industrial cities to the Federal Capital Territory”.
‘I joined the protest today on behalf of our organization to press home our demands which borders on immediate attention on the road by government at all levels. We know that it’s a federal road but the fact that all Nigerians are using the road including local people call for immediate accelerated attention on the road.
The Benin Auchi road was constructed by Dumex Construction Company in 1975, over 47 years old when Abuja was not even the FCT and just a few numbers of vehicles where plying the road then.
It saddens our corporate emotion to see that since the early 70s and despite the abundance of resources in our region, the federal and state government have refused to dualize the road or carry out palliative measures to fix the failed portions of the one lane federal road leading from the oil rich Niger Delta to the Federal capital city and the core north”, Ohens lamented.
As at the time of filling this report, some officials purported to be from the Ministry of Works are in the protest epicenter in Iruekpen axis of the university town of Ekpoma, to address the determined Esan youths.
Officials from the Concerned Ekpoma Eminent Stakeholders Forum (CEESF) were fully on ground to solidarize with Esan Liberation Movement.
Edo State government also sent along with them the permanent Sec. Ministry of Works and Bridges. and the road contractor. We are all going for an on the spot accessment of the road together. Details later.
